Dunkirk
Anyone seen it yet?

Watched it last night. Best war film I've seen in my opinion. It's like being strapped in a roller coaster.

Read a lot of book by Military Historian Anthony Beevor (No jokes about pussies or big teeth please)
He wrote them in this order
Stalingrad read that about 3 times
The Fall of Berlin
D Day
The Ardennes

One on the reasons the Allies invaded when they did was to stop Russia taking over Western Europe and keeping hold of it as they did with Eastern Europe. Churchill later suggested going to War with Russia over the occupation of Poland, which the reason we went to war with Germany. But The US turned him down

My 27 year old son went last night and msg'd me his review.
One comment he made was that it was a 'bit nationalistic for his taste'. Sounds like something that cunt Corbyn would say.

Re: Dunkirk
Dynamo was a success in that we saved a lot of our forces from certain capture, not sure it was a turning point?

As Churchill said "we must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations."

The real turning points were for me, Barbarossa - took the heat of us
Pearl Harbor - brought the Yanks in on our side
Stalingrad, the beginning of the end of the Wermacht

Chim, yeah I was there, you can see me if you squint

Re: Dunkirk

Re: Dunkirk
Yeah sea lion was the other lot Dynamo I meant

Far Cough 11:17 Thu Aug 10
Re: Dunkirk
Sea Lion wasn't a turning point because it never happened

You said if Sea Lion had failed, we would be speaking German or Russian, explain to me how that failure (if it had happened) would have meant us speaking German or Russian?

Re: Dunkirk
I'm fully aware of that FC, but it still remains a turning point in the History of Europe and the world

If Sea Lion had failed?

It never happened

Re: Dunkirk
Looks like some people are missing the point of a film depicting something that changed the course of European and maybe Word history. If operation sea lion had failed you'd be speaking either German or Russian now

What a fucking bellend, I see Dunkirk DVD in Sainsburys, so I quickly picked it up thinking that was released quite quick, got home and found it was the 1958 version

Cough, superb German engineering.

Re: Dunkirk
Toms, it was automatic in pulling out of the dive

Interesting to note, that the Stuka was probably the only plane that could dive vertically, most other dive bombers did so at about 60 degrees

Re: Dunkirk
They've got one at Hendon.

Fucking brilliant museum that, and free too.

Re: Dunkirk
The Stuka is one of my favourite aircraft of the Luftwaffe. Must have been scary being the rear gunner and wondering if your pilot would pull out of the dive in time.

Re: Dunkirk
Don't believe it crashed into the sea did it? It just was an attempt to avoid being hit.

Re: Dunkirk
Swiss, yes they did, they had dive brakes
